Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) Webshop
Dear skipper,
welcome to the WSV Webshop where you can pay your transit fee for a passage through Kiel Canal online. The legal basis for the fee is the Kiel Canal transit fee ordinance (NOKBefAbgV).
This webshop offers you the opportunity to conveniently pay the transit fee in advance, so you do not need to berth near the locks to pay the fee at one of the ticket machines. However, it is still possible to make the payment at on-site ticket machines in Kiel-Holtenau as an alternative.

This is how it works
You may register a passage for any given day, stating the name and the length of the ship. You will then receive a fee notice by e-mail.
In case, you have chosen "Advance payment" as the payment method, it may take up to five days until the money is credited to our account. We will only be able to send you the code once we have received the payment. In case you need the code faster, make sure to choose payment by credit card, since in these cases the payment will usually be processed in a few minutes. However, depending on the quality of your Internet connection, it may also take up to one hour. The SEPA-direct debit procedure is also very fast. In order to use it you need to set up a user account in our WSV Webshop.
Once we have received the money, we will send you a code as proof of payment. The code is already valid two days before and three days after your chosen day, so you remain flexible in your route planning. You can register a complete transit through two locks and the entire length of Kiel Canal or a so-called partial transit with only one lock. In this case, your trip ends or begins at the latest on the inland side of the other lock. Both options can be selected westbound or eastbound.
You must present the code you received by e-mail at the locks. Please print this code in DIN A 4 format so that you can present it to the inspector at the locks. Alternatively, you can also write the code on a piece of paper in a font size large enough to the inspector to read it from a distance of 12 meters from the top of the locks. We also offer an automated check: To take part in this, please enter the MMSI number for your AIS device - if available - when you register. If you have entered your MMSI number when registering in the WSV Webshop, an automated check will be performed and you will only be addressed by the inspector in exceptional cases, e.g. if the name of the vessel is not visible in the lock situation. However, you will still need to print or write the code as described above as a back-up solution.
We wish you a relaxing passage through Kiel Canal!
