Declaration on accessibility

The Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration endeavors to make the website and all associated subsites accessible without barriers. The legal bases are the Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz (BGG) und die Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung (BITV) in their currently valid versions. These are based on EU Directive 2016/2102.

The development and design of this website are focused on user-friendliness and accessibility. This website was subjected to a BITV 2.0 self-test. According to our own assessment, this website is largely compatible with the specifications of the harmonized European standard EN 301 549 V2.1.2 (08-2018).

Non-accessible documents

Non-accessible contents can currently be found primarily in the following areas:

PDF-documents for download

We are currently in the process of setting up a process for creating accessible or low-barrier PDF documents. Newly created PDF documents will be barrier-free. This process will take some time. However, no general subsequent reworking of older PDF documents is planned. If you need a specific PDF file that is not barrier-free , please feel free to contact us at or at the postal address below. Please indicate in which form you need the file and to which e-mail address / postal address we may send it.

Forms for download

In the future, we would also like to make our online application forms available in an accessible format. The complete implementation will take some time.

If you need an application form from our website that is not yet available barrier-free, please feel free to contact us at or at the postal address below. Please indicate in which form you need the form and to which e-mail address / postal address we may send it to you.

Conciliation procedure

You are of the opinion that:

You have not received satisfying answers through the above contact options or you are disadvantaged because the website as well as all associated subsites are not sufficiently accessible? If so, you can submit an application to initiate conciliation proceedings under the Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz (BGG). You can find this application at

The Schlichtungsstelle („conciliation board“) pursuant to section 16 BGG has the task of settling disputes between people with disabilities and federal public bodies extrajudicially, in particular on the subject of accessibility. The conciliation procedure is free of charge. No legal counsel needs to be involved.

Further information on the procedure and how to apply can be found on the website of the conciliation body under the Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz (BGG).
